After Lockdown

The last three months have challenged each and everyone of us in different ways. Key workers may have found themselves working longer hours. Parents have had to become teachers whilst holding down their day job. Some employees have changed roles to help out with Covid 19. Anybody with health issues have had to isolate totally. Grandparents may have been prevented from being able to see or hug their grandchildren. Other people have loved the break from family and friends, but I doubt they would share that with you. Whatever you have had to endure, lockdown may also have given you time to reflect on your life and the things that we sometimes take for granted.

Recognise your skills

Unfortunately, some people have lost their jobs because of Covid 19. If you fall into this category you may have already planned what to do next. You may think that now is a good time to think of a new career. You may want to reinvent yourself. Often people do not recognise their own skills and abilities, and this stops them applying themselves to new careers.

Solution Focused Hypnotherapy can help you to focus on your skills and abilities. It can increase your confidence and self-esteem, which then allows you to apply for jobs that previously you may have thought you did not have the skills needed.

Dreams

Whilst thinking about reinventing yourself I was reminded about one of my favourite films, Two Weeks Notice. Sandra Bullock, a frumpy, nervous lawyer, and Hugh Grant, an arrogant billionaire, come together, with vastly different agendas. Despite his power and wealth, she manages to get what she wants. Unfortunately, it is not the same for all of us in real life. Many of us have to adjust our dreams, accommodate other people’s wishes and even change our own beliefs to pacify others.

Stop digging

As a result, many of us are stuck in a place that we never planned to be. No matter how much you try to dig your way out, the hole gets deeper and you start to feel guilt, anger or anxiety. If you can relate to this, then it is time to get back on your own track. The course that was intended for you as a unique, individual, and not the path that other people have made you take. Hypnotherapy can help you see your own potential again and increase your confidence so that you can voice your own opinions.

Declutter

It may be time to declutter your life. Removing the clutter from our lives can make us happier. Our environment can sometimes affect our mood. Take a few minutes to imagine a place that you have been to that was cluttered and had poor lighting. Can you remember how it made you feel? I bet it was not warm and welcoming and that you felt a lot happier once you had left.

Often when we decorate, we declutter first. Decorating can be a way of reinventing ourselves. However, we may hold onto to materialistic items in an attempt to remember the good old day and then forget to make new happy memories. Sometimes a change can be as good as a rest.

You may choose to declutter your phone.  Michael McIntyre, who hosts Big Show plays a game called Send to All when he takes a mobile phone from a celebrity and then sends a blanket text to all their contacts. On one occasion he sent a message asking the contacts how he knew them and why they should not delete them from the contact list. What response do you think you would get if you sent the same message to all your contacts? We often hold onto things of no importance or value and they can prevent us giving the care and attention to the things that matter. Let go of the old to make room for the new – only it is not New Year.

Comfort zone

It seems to be a bit of a buzz word now telling people to move outside of their comfort zone. Great if you are a confident, outgoing person but anybody who suffers from stress and anxiety could find this too daunting. Hypnotherapy allows you to imagine what it is like to move outside of your comfort zone before you do it for real. The brain cannot tell the difference between imagination and reality so practicing this during trance can really help. It may just be imaging yourself going into a café on your own, or it could be visualising yourself going for a new job. Research has shown that visualising yourself actually doing a task uses the same parts of the brain as when you are actually doing the task and that is why it is then easier to then move out of your comfort zone.

Changes

You do not need to make huge, dramatic changes to reinvent yourself. Often the slow, small changes are far better than huge leaps. You may find that by taking control of one small area of your life then other things of similar importance will fall into place without any conscious effort.
